National Foundation for Civil Society Development

Leading public institutions for the cooperation, linking and financing of civil society organisations in Croatia, which has held the internationally recognised HRN ISO 9001:2008 certificate for the management of the process of grant allocation to associations since 2006.

The National Foundation for Civil Society Development is a public foundation founded by the Republic of Croatia by a special act passed by the Croatian Parliament on 16 October 2003.

The National Foundation was registered (entered into the Foundations Register within the Minister of Justice, Administration and Local Self-government) on 24 November 2003 with founding capital of two million kunas and a continuous inflow of funds from part of the income from games of chance and funds from the State Budget. The National Foundation has been approved support by the DFID (the British Government Department for International Development) and it will also manage a program of financial support within the CARDS program of the European Union for the development of not-for-profit social enterprise. In view of this income, other donations from domestic and foreign physical and legal persons, and income from its own activities, the National Foundation is classified in the category of public mixed foundations (a combination of an operative foundation and a foundation which allocates financial support)

The National Foundation for Civil Society Development was founded with the basic aim of promoting and developing the civil society in the Republic of Croatia. In order to fulfill its basic aim, the Foundation offers expert and financial support to programs which encourage the sustainability of the not-for-profit sector, inter-sector cooperation, civil initiatives, philanthropy, voluntary work, and which improve the democratic institutions of society and other programs which fulfill the basic aims of the Foundation.
